Objective:
To develop a mobile application that scans pantry items and suggests recipes based on available ingredients. The app aims to simplify meal preparation by providing a personalized inventory system and tailored recipes, minimizing food waste and enhancing cooking efficiency.
Role:
Visual Designer and UX Researcher
Problem:
Users enjoy exploring new recipes but often find gathering ingredients or keeping track of their pantry inventory a hassle. Existing solutions failed to integrate pantry scanning, dietary preferences, and recipe suggestions seamlessly, leaving users frustrated with fragmented tools.
Process:
I conducted extensive user research to understand pain points, such as inventory management, dietary restrictions, and ease of use. I created wireframes and user flows that focused on simplifying tasks like scanning items, managing pantry inventory, and accessing recipes.
Through usability testing, I refined the design to ensure an intuitive user experience. Key features like barcode scanning, dietary preference filters, and a ranked recipe suggestion system were iteratively developed. My role also included designing a clean, visually appealing interface that made navigation straightforward and enjoyable.
Results:
The final product was an AI-driven app that allowed users to scan pantry items, manage dietary preferences, and receive recipe recommendations effortlessly. The app simplified pantry organization, reduced meal preparation time, and enhanced user satisfaction. Usability testing confirmed a significant reduction in user frustration with pantry and recipe management tasks, reinforcing the app's value as a seamless kitchen aid.
Takeaway:
This project highlights my ability to combine visual design and UX research to address real-world problems with practical, user-centric solutions. By merging advanced features with an intuitive design, I demonstrated the potential of technology to streamline everyday tasks like cooking and inventory management.
